Researchers have identified a space-based Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) interference source that has caused numerous transient wide-area interference events over Europe, Greenland, and Canada since 2019. The source has been identified as a constellation of Russian early warning satellites in Molniya orbits. The interference events have been detected using a network of terrestrial GNSS reference stations and have been analyzed to determine their spatial, temporal, and spectral patterns. The identification of the source has significant implications for the security and reliability of GNSS systems.
