Sabastian Sawe made history by becoming the first athlete to run a sub-two-hour marathon in a competitive race, finishing the London Marathon in 1:59:30. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 2:00:35 set by Kelvin Kiptum in 2023. Sawe's record-breaking time was not the only notable performance, as Yomif Kejelcha, making his marathon debut, finished in 1:59:41, and Jacob Kiplimo completed the podium in 2:00:28. The women's race also saw a new world record, with Tigst Assefa improving her own record in a women-only field to 2:15:41.
