GitHub has removed the ability of its Copilot AI tool to insert ads, referred to as 'tips', into pull requests on its platform after facing backlash from developers. The feature was introduced to help developers learn new ways to use the agent in their workflow, but it was met with criticism for being intrusive and inappropriate. The decision to remove the feature was made after a developer reported finding an ad for a productivity app in one of their pull requests. GitHub's product manager acknowledged that allowing Copilot to alter others' pull requests was a 'wrong judgment call'.
