A project called PS2Recomp is underway to recompile PlayStation 2 games to run natively on modern platforms, allowing for improved performance and graphics without the need for emulators. This project has the potential to enable community-driven remasters and remakes of classic PS2 games. The PS2's unique architecture, including its Emotion Engine CPU and Graphics Synthesizer GPU, makes recompilation a complex task. If successful, the project could lead to a new wave of game preservation and enhancement.
