In April 2025, the 4chan website was hacked by a group claiming to be part of the Soyjak.Party community, resulting in the restoration of the deleted /QA/ board and the leaking of emails associated with 4chan's moderation team. The hackers exploited outdated PHP code and deprecated MySQL functions in 4chan's backend. The leak included emails of janitors, with some claims of .gov emails being associated with moderators, although this remains unverified. The site was down for 10 days before returning online.
