Andreas Kling, the creator of SerenityOS, is forking the Ladybird web browser into a separate project and stepping down as the Benevolent Dictator for Life (BDFL) of SerenityOS. This decision is intended to allow Ladybird to leverage third-party libraries and focus on its development, while SerenityOS can continue to maintain its strict 'no 3rd party code' policy. The fork will enable Ladybird to target Linux and macOS, but it will no longer be developed with SerenityOS as a primary target. The SerenityOS community will now take over the project's maintenance and development.
