Researchers at the University of Washington have developed an AI system that allows a user to focus on a single person's voice in a crowded environment by looking at them for a few seconds. The system, called Target Speech Hearing, uses machine learning to identify the desired speaker's voice and cancel out other sounds. The technology has been tested on 21 subjects, who reported improved clarity of the enrolled speaker's voice. The system is not yet commercially available, but the code is available for others to build on.
