Natron Energy has started producing lithium-free sodium batteries in the US, offering a potentially more reliable and cost-effective alternative to lithium-ion batteries. The batteries have a lower energy density but charge and discharge at rates 10 times faster than lithium-ion and have an estimated lifespan of 50,000 cycles. They are made from abundantly available materials and have a safer, non-flammable chemistry. The company plans to target the stationary power market, including data centers and EV charging stations.
