Northvolt has developed a state-of-the-art sodium-ion battery with an energy density of 160 Wh/kg, which is more cost-effective and sustainable than conventional lithium-ion batteries. The battery is made with abundant minerals such as iron and sodium, and is free from lithium, nickel, cobalt, and graphite. Northvolt plans to industrialize the production of these batteries and bring them to commercial markets. The technology has the potential to accelerate the energy transition and make electrification more accessible worldwide.
