ArXiv, a free distribution service and open-access archive for scholarly articles, has received over $10 million in gifts and grants from the Simons Foundation and the National Science Foundation. The funding will be used to migrate arXiv to the cloud, modernize its code, and ensure reliability, fault tolerance, and accessibility for researchers. ArXiv was founded in 1991 and is maintained and operated by Cornell Tech, serving researchers in various fields. The upgrades will also include hiring software developers and developing new search and recommendation techniques.
