A lawsuit alleges that TikTok's owner, ByteDance, built a 'backdoor' in its code, allowing the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to access user data hosted in the US. The lawsuit was filed by a former engineering lead who claims he was terminated for reporting the issue. The CCP allegedly had access to US user data even after ByteDance restricted access for individual engineers in China. TikTok has previously stated that it does not share information with the Chinese government and that US user data is stored in the US and Singapore.
