Kite, a startup that aimed to use AI to help developers write code, is shutting down and open-sourcing its code. The company failed to deliver its vision of AI-assisted programming due to the technology not being ready yet, and also failed to build a successful business as its product did not monetize. Kite's team built a world-class engineering team and grew its user base to 500,000 monthly-active developers, but the product failed to generate revenue. The company's code and technology will be made available on Github.
