A Korean nuclear fusion reactor achieved 100M°C for 30 seconds, bringing us closer to a viable fusion reactor if the technique can be scaled up. The simultaneous achievement of heat and stability is significant, although the duration and temperature alone are not records. The physics of fusion reactors is becoming well understood, but technical hurdles need to be overcome before a working power plant can be built. Developing methods to withdraw heat from the reactor and use it to generate electrical current is a key challenge.
